Opened in March 2021, AO BOWL, an all-organic, gluten-free, modern Japanese eatery and smoothie bar innovates with concept and design at St. Marks Place, New York City.
The Alfonsina Romero designed eatery seats 12 and features an elegant burgundy-gray color palette inside an industrial canvas. In line with an organic and futuristic feel, standout materials include American handmade glazed tiling, custom terrazzo café tables, and matte marble countertops. Metal perforated panels divide the kitchen allowing the space to breathe and light to flow to the back. Live plants hang on a grid, hugging the shadows cast by the dimple sconces on the walls, a nod to the eatery’s in-house sprouts and microgreens farm.
Across the sidewalk, a minimalistic deck painted in gray delivers a muted preview of the palette inside, against a vibrant St. Marks Place backdrop.
